Reflexology has been known to man for at least 5000 years. This therapy was practiced by the Chinese, Egyptian and Native Americans.
The earliest pictorial evidence of Reflexology was discovered in the tomb of a physician named Ankm'ahor, at Saqqara in Egypt, dating from around 2500 to 2330BC.
In 1913 Dr. William Fitzgerald, introduced this therapy to the West. By dividing the body into 10 longitudinal zones, he worked out that the reflex areas on the feet and hands are linked to other areas and organs of the body within that zone. Reflexology was then further developed by the remedial therapist Eunice Ingham in the 1930's. She mapped out the reflex organs on the feet and hands to the various body parts. She also developed the "Ingham Compression Method of Reflexology"
Reflexology acts by treating the individual as a whole, not just the symptoms of disease. Reflexology can therefore be of benefit to most people of all ages. The therapy brings relief to a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. Once your body is more on an even keel it is wise to have regular treatments in order to help maintain health and well being. Reflexology has grown in popularity as a relaxing, enjoyable, safe and natural therapy that balances and harmonises the body into well being.
